All is fair in love and fleshing blades

Producer of specialist blades for shaving and fleshing machines Heusch resorted to dark humour at Tanning Tech 2019, promising “Brexit-resilient supply” to tanners in Europe. This was clearly a gentle dig at rival supplier, Liverpool-based Hardy UK.

Key account manager, Maria Hennes, said Heusch, based in Aachen, is very close to Germany’s borders with Belgium and the Netherlands and will continue to trade from the heart of Europe after the UK leaves the European Union, scheduled for March 29.

Hardy UK took the comment with good grace and said it was happy to see humour play a part in a complex situation. It told World Leather that it had no more clarity than any other business over what could happen in the wake of a United Kingdom exit from the European Union, but said its customers in all markets could be sure they would continue to have access to its products.
