National Beef helps Marfrig open a route to Japan

Marfrig has 21 meat plants across Brazil, but none are currently able to export to Japan. The company has found a way round this by exporting beef from one of its plants in Uruguay under the name of US company National Beef, of which Marfrig became the major shareholder in 2018.
Plants in the Uruguayan towns of Colonia and Tacuarembó, which have a combined production capacity of 500 tonnes of meat per month, are accredited to supply hamburgers to major global fast food chains, are at the centre of Marfrig’s new Japan venture.
