IULTCS Congress to minimise its own carbon footprint

01/02/2019
The scientific committee for the XXXV IULTCS International Congress, which will take place in Dresden from June 25-28 announced at the end of January the it had already received nearly 200 abstracts from prospective speakers at the event.

Interested parties have until February 15 to submit abstracts.

Proposals for presentations have come in from all parts of the world and on topics ranging from fundamental collagen research to all steps of the leather manufacturing process. Sustainability will have a high significance within the scientific programme, the committee said, with specific subjects such as cleaner technologies, closed-loop processes, tannery waste management and resource-friendly technologies all featuring prominently.

Following this example, local organiser and co-host, Germany’s leather chemicals association VGCT, has worked from the outset with the Dresden International Congress Centre and local authorities to try to minimise the environmental impact of the event to a minimum. This has included arrangements for traffic, for catering, for accommodation and for waste management. Food and other materials will be sourced as locally as possible and all recommended hotels will be well connected by public transport.
