Big events make way for smaller leather exhibitions in Turkey

Major industry exhibitions enjoyed high levels of success in Turkey between 2000 and 2015, observers have commented. But a number of factors, including a downturn in the country’s economy and a decline in the importance of Turkish leather in export markets, have combined to make it hard for event organisers to encourage large suppliers of leather, chemicals, machinery and finished products to gather under one roof now.

In place of large international exhibitions, however, smaller-scale, local, specialised events have become popular.

Recent examples have included Leather And More, a leather and leather garments fair that took place in Izmir from January 22-24, and Le Show Istanbul, which took place for suppliers of leather and leather fashion in Turkey’s biggest city from January 24-26.

Organiser said they were pleased by the numbers of overseas fashion buyers who attended and placed orders, especially for garments made from sheep nappa and lamb double-face leathers.
