Beef production for the year also increased, reaching more than 3 million tonnes, up by 7.3% compared to the year before.
Meat industry association Ciccra has said exports of beef from Argentina last year rose by around 75%, with demand proving particularly strong in China and Russia. Ciccra said buoyant demand in export markets helped packers avoid a sharp fall in price in the domestic market.
The domestic market still absorbed more than 80% of the total volume Argentinean packers produced last year, reaching almost 2.5 million tonnes in total. Consumers in Argentina ate, on average, 56.1 kilos of beef each last year, a decline of 2.4% compared to 2017.
