Heritage at the heart of Tricker’s Tramping boot
25/01/2019
Managing director, Martin Mason, has explained that Tricker’s decided to bring back the heritage boot, which he described as being in keeping with traditional footwear “for pursuits in the British countryside”, as part of the company’s 190th anniversary, which it is celebrating in 2019.
It uses an article called Cruiser upper leather from Pittards and English oak-bark tanned leather from J. & F.J. Baker for the sole. Each boot is made by hand in the Tricker’s factory in Northampton, with its skilled craftspeople taking each one through 260 individual stages.
Mr Mason pointed out that all three of the companies involved in producing the new version of the Tramping boot are more than 150 years old. Pittards began producing in 1826, Tricker’s in 1829 and J. & F.J. Baker in 1862. He said he viewed the reintroduction of the boot with leather from these suppliers as a good example of why heritage manufacturing is still important in 2019.
