US government shutdown affecting hide and leather sector

15/01/2019
The US Hide, Skin and Leather Association (USHSLA) has said the ongoing shutdown of the US government is beginning to have an impact on the industry.

In its regular weekly newsletter on January 15, USHSLA said the stoppage by government workers, which is the result of a dispute between President Donald Trump and the US Senate, has now entered its fourth week, “with no clear end in sight”.

It went on to say that many US Department of Agriculture service providers to the hide, skin and leather industry have stopped work. Examples it gave included slaughter and export sales statistics, the services of agricultural service staff in US embassies overseas and those of animal health inspection representatives.
