China says Beijing talks with US were positive

China’s ministry of commerce has put a positive slant on talks that took place in Bejing from January 7-9 between the host country and the US with the aim of ending their trade dispute. The talks took place at vice-ministerial level.

After the discussions, the Chinese ministry of commerce said there had been “extensive, in-depth and detailed communications on trade”, and that these “laid a foundation for solving problems of mutual concern”.

Tariffs on imports into the US from China were to increase from 10% to 25% on January 1. This measure has been postponed but, as things stand, it will still go ahead in April.
