Merger creates new Institut Français de la Mode

10/01/2019
A new Institut Français de la Mode (IFM) launched in Paris on January 8 after the institute, which has been involved in fashion management education since 1986, merged with an older establishment, the Ecole de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne (ECSCP).

The new IFM will provide, under one roof, educational programmes in fashion design, management and craftsmanship. It will offer qualifications from vocational to doctorate levels.

France’s minister for the economy and finance, Bruno Le Maire, presided at the opening ceremony.

IFM president, André Beirnaert, said the new institution was more than the simple combination of two entities. He said the result will enrich Paris’s “offer of excellence” in creativity, management and craftsmanship to the fashion industry.

Two new programmes will launch in September 2019: a bachelor of arts in fashion design in French and English, and a master of arts in fashion design in English.
