Leather Pipeline bids farewell to ‘most negative’ year in the industry’s recorded history
The latest edition of our exclusive Leather Pipeline market intelligence report bids a less-than-fond farewell to 2018, calling this year “most likely the most negative ever seen” in the recorded history of the global leather industry.

In spite of raw material prices that have fallen to levels as low as those of 2008, the report says there is no recovery in leather demand to be seen anywhere.

It goes on to highlight specific examples from previously encouraging segments, automotive and luxury materials, that hint at possible weaknesses appearing there too. It laments that, in both cases, there are elements of self-inflicted damage, at least in the sense that user companies and the leather industry itself have missed good opportunities to stand up for the material.
