Popularity of Brangus cattle on the up in Paraguay

Growth in the popularity of the Brangus breed in Paraguay means the cross between Brahman and Angus now accounts for 40% of the national herd.

Official statistics put Paraguay’s cattle herd at 13.5 million head. Of these, the national animal health agency, Senacsa, calculates that Brangus number 5.4 million.

Packer companies from Paraguay are currently exporting beef from Brangus cattle to other South American markets such as Brazil, Ecuador, Chile and Peru. However, they have also found a market for the product in Taiwan.
