Exports of beef from the US increased in volume and in value in the first nine months of 2018, compared to the same period last year, according to figures from the US Department of Agriculture.

From January to September 2018, US packers shipped just over 1 million tonnes of beef to overseas markets, bringing in export revenues of almost $6.2 billion. These figures represent a year-on-year increase of 9% in volume and of 18% in value.

Japan was the most important export market for US beef over the nine-month period, with 25% of the volume going there and 25.7% of the total value coming from there. The volume of exports to Japan increased by 7%, while the value rose by 10%.

There were higher increases in beef exports to the second-most important market, South Korea. Volumes rose by 37% and values by 51%.
