US hide exports fall in volume and value

Packers and traders in the US exported almost 21.5 million hides in the first nine months of 2018, almost 17.8 million wet salted hides, plus 3.7 million wet blue. This figure represents a decline of 6.1% from the 22.9 million hides exported in the same months in 2017. Wet salted hide exports were down 3%, while the volume of shipments of wet blue declined by 19%.

In terms of value, the money that came in from exports of all types of hides in the first nine months of this year was more than $1.2 billion, down by 22.8%. Wet salted hides brought in 23% less export revenue at just over $1.1 billion. Wet blue brought in 13% less money, at $436.3 million.
