Turkey adds to duties on semi-processed hides

05/11/2018
Turkey’s ministry of economics appears committed to continuing a policy of placing duties on raw material and semi-processed hides and skins.

At the start of 2018, the ministry imposed custom duties of 20 US cents per square-foot on sheepskin in wet blue form and of 50 cents per kilo on wet-salted cattle hides in an effort to discourage meat companies and traders from allowing unfinished leather to leave the country.

More recently, the ministry decided to add duties of 50 cents per kilo to exports of wet blue cattle hides.
