Freight-train link for Egypt’s new tanning cluster

Egypt’s national railway authority is to include the country’s new leather manufacturing cluster at Roubiki in an expansion plan for rail-freight.

It has said cargo trains will be able to transport containers between Roubiki, which is 60 kilometres east of central Cairo, and the port of Ain Sokhna at the northern end of the Gulf of Suez.

The rail authority has said it wants to maximise the role of train transport in logistics in Egypt and container-loaded trains began to run in some parts of the country in October.
