Pakistan’s new prime minister, former sports star Imran Khan, travelled to China at the start of November to meet government leaders there and to boost Pakistan’s presence at the China International Import Expo (CIIE), a huge trade show taking place for the first time this year, running in Shanghai from November 5-10.

In advance of the trip, Imran Khan told local media that Pakistan needs help “to push our exports”, and he said the CIIE represented “a great opportunity”. Leathergoods will be among the products on display at the Pakistan pavilion, alongside textiles, agricultural products, sporting goods and medical equipment.

Mr Khan also said his government is undertaking a series of reforms to make Pakistan more competitive in the global market.
