President of the Guanjuato Footwear Industry Association, Luis Gerardo González, has said that Mexico currently has 8,000 companies involved in the production of shoes and that 67% of those companies are based in the state of Guanajuato.

Mr González said in recent comments to local media that the state’s shoe producers are manufacturing more than 170 million pairs of shoes per year. He added that the footwear industry is responsible for 160,000 jobs in Guanajuato and for 53% of overall economy of the state’s biggest city, León.
