Hüni becomes a supporter of Tannery of the Future

Tannery of the Future, the initiative that encourages leather manufacturers to use a sustainability self-assessment tool to make improvements in their environmental management, has a new supporter.

Switzerland-based tanning drum technology provider Hüni has announced a new three-year sponsorship deal with the programme.

“The Hüni Group aims at environmental sustainability,” said the technology provider’s sales manager for south-east Asia, Ralph Arbeid, at the time of the announcement. “Its products prioritise reduced water, power and chemicals consumption in the tanning process, with a keen eye on operator safety. Hüni identifies strongly with the Tannery of the Future’s goal of assisting the leather industry become more sustainable, socially responsible and cleaner by providing an easily accessible corporate social responsibility self-checklist.”

Antoinette Gast, co-initiator and chairman of the Tannery of the Future foundation, said she was pleased and grateful for Hüni’s contribution. “It is of vital importance to our cause that big industry players like Hüni help spread our message.”

Since its release in March 2016, the Tannery of the Future self-assessment tool has been downloaded by over 600 companies, including tanners, brands, retailers and traders in 65 countries worldwide.
