France’s leather exports increased in first half

The French leather sector saw its overall exports increase 8% year on year in the first half of 2018, according to the latest data from industry body the Conseil National du Cuir (CNC).

Exports of leathergoods also grew 8% year on year, to €3.5 billion, led by the strong performance of handbags and travel goods. Leather shoe exports, meanwhile, increased 9% to €1.7 billion in the first six months of the year. 

Overall exports of raw hides and skins increased 5%, with growth of 7% for ovine hides, of 1% for calfskins, and of 44% for exotic skins.
