Business as usual for three Clayton Group leather manufacturers

24/09/2018
Specialist business advisory firm FRP has confirmed to leatherbiz that it is acting as the administrator of Chesterfield-based leather manufacturer Joseph Clayton & Sons Limited and that the total number of redundancies it has announced in the immediate term is 14.

Furthermore, the administrators have made it clear that the three other companies in the Clayton Leather Group continue to trade.

As well as Joseph Clayton and Sons Limited, the group comprises bridle leather manufacturers Sedgwick & Co and Samuel Sharp, and master leather currier company William Clarke.

Primarily a vegetable-tanner, Joseph Clayton & Sons had been making leather in Chesterfield for 178 years, with customers in sectors ranging from fashion and sports to footwear and interior design. FRP said the company had entered administration following “a significant fall in turnover due to loss of orders and customers”.
