IULTCS expands young leather scientist grant programme

Next year, there will be three separate grants, thanks to support from leather chemicals manufacturer TFL and from tanning technology developer Erretre, as well as from the IULTCS. The IULTCS grant is for €1,500 and the two companies have put up grants of of €1,000 each.
Scientists under the age of 35 are entitled to apply for the grants; they have until November 30, 2018, to do so. The IULTCS award will be for a general leather research project, while the award from TFL will help fund a sustainability or environmental project and the one from Erretre a machinery or equipment project.
Commenting on the development, Adriano Peruzzi, Erretre’s sales director, said: “Our company supports leather education and we strongly believe our sector needs young, motivated people to implement innovation and face all new challenges.”
For his part, Dr Jurgen Christner, head of development, product safety and product quality at TFL, said: “TFL is proud to sponsor the sustainability grant to a young scientist. We see this as a part of our commitment to environmental stewardship. TFL has been a pioneer of ecological products for the leather industry and strongly believes that sustainable production is essential for securing a bright future for the leather industry. The industry needs talent, investment in education and training, and focused research will be a key element.”
Chair of the IULTCS research committee, Dr Luis Zugno, said: “Our young leather scientist grant programme is getting stronger. Now in its fifth year, we are delighted to have two additional grants from TFL and Erretre to expand our research areas.”
