Remote Brazilian tannery achieves marketing coup

A prominent media figure in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, Iaci Rocha, has left her job at Porto Alegre-based newspaper O Correio do Povo after 11 years for a new career in the leather industry.

Family commitments have taken Ms Rocha to the city of Santiago, 500 kilometres to the west, in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. It’s much too far to commute back to the state capital, so instead she will commute just 35 kilometres to Nova Esperança do Sul where she will work at Gobba Leather.

A well established supplier of finished leather to the international furniture market, Gobba Leather currently processes 60,000 hides per month. It’s a family-owned company with around 700 employees. Ms Rocha’s role will be to build up Gobba Leather’s marketing initiatives.
