China: imports growing faster than exports

Official figures for the first six months of 2018 show that the value of China’s exports increased by 12.8% compared to the same period last year and reached $1.17 trillion. Over the same period, the value of imports into China was $1.03 trillion, which represents an increase of almost 20%.

China’s trade surplus had a value of just under $140 billion, which is 21.6% lower than the surplus for the first half of 2017.
