COTANCE and industriAll announce October health and safety event

The representative body of the European leather industry, COTANCE, and trade union organisation industriAll will host a conference in Brussels in October as the conclusion to a project to promote a healthy work environment in tanneries.

COTANCE said it expects 100 people from across the leather value chain to attend the one-day event, which will take place on October 9. It explained: “The objective is to bring together a critical mass of opinion-shapers and decision-makers with regard to due diligence in the supply of leather and leather products to the EU market.”

This project began in March 2017 and involved a survey in which industriAll and COTANCE asked individuals and companies in the leather sector across Europe to raise any concerns they had about workplace health and safety conditions in tanneries.

The two organisations said the findings of the survey will provide a starting-point for debate at the October conference.
