Temple Grandin returns to Brazil
16/07/2018
Her engagements will include a series of workshops and presentations on research into animal welfare in São Paulo, but she will also visit a farm in Araguaiana in Mato Grosso.
She is the guest of pharma group Boehringer Ingelheim, of cattle feed supplement brand Tortuga and of meat and leather producer JBS.
JBS said in the build-up to Temple Grandin’s arrival in Brazil that it has already designed slaughter plants such as the ones it runs at Campo Grande in Mato Grosso do Sul and at Diamantino in Mato Grosso on guidelines drawn up by the US academic. JBS also said it has spent around $11.5 million in the last two years on projects to improve its animal welfare practices across Brazil.
Almost half of all cattle in the US that are processed for meat go for slaughter in facilities designed by Temple Grandin.
