Smit & zoon awards scholarship fund to Shaanxi University

Leather chemicals manufacturer Smit & zoon has announced that it will make a new scholarship fund available to Shaanxi University of Science and Technology in China to support research on sustainable leather manufacturing.

Chief executive, Hans van Haarst, said on making the announcement: “China is an important market for us and we are keen to support Chinese tanneries in meeting the ever-stricter rules and regulations on sustainability. This is in line with our ambition to make the leather value chain more sustainable.”

He went on to say that the research Xi’an-based Shaanxi University has been doing in the area of leather manufacturing is at a very high level and that Smit & zoon is happy to be able to contribute to further research through the new scholarship.”
