USDA reports record cattle-on-feed numbers

27/06/2018
New figures from the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) have shown that, on June 22, 2018, the total number of cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the US was 11.6 million head, 4% more than on the same date last year.

This equates to an increase of 457,000 head year on year.

It pointed out that this figure is the highest June cattle-on-feed inventory recorded since such reporting began in 1996.

These figures make it 18 consecutive month that the number of cattle and calves on feed in the US has increased compared to the previous year. The numbers have been above 11 million head for the past eight months.
