Abattoirs in Brazil slaughtered more than 7.7 million head of cattle in the first quarter of 2018, according to official figures from IBGE, the government statistics agency.

This figure represents an increase of 4.4% compared to the same quarter in 2017.

Slaughter in most of the major cattle-rearing states was up, by 8% in Mato Grosso, 1% in Mato Grosso do Sul, 3.9% in Goiás, 19.4% in São Paulo and 10% in Minas Gerais.
