A member of the organising committee, Dr Dietrich Tegtmeyer of Lanxess, gave an update at the Freiberg Leather Days on June 13. He said the IULTCS Congress, which takes place once every two years, always offers opportunities for learning, for networking, for academic recognition for new research and for cultural enjoyment.
He said the organisers hope to attract 500 delegates to Germany for the event, including importing delegations from China, India and Brazil.
“We’re very happy with the discussion we’ve had with the Dresden International Congress Centre,” Dr Tegtmeyer said. “It’s a remarkable new building and it’s in a wonderful location, close to the River Elbe and the city’s famous Marienbrücke bridge. However, when we indicated to the centre’s manager that we were keen to go ahead, he said he thought he should warn us that the building is on the site of a former abattoir and said he didn’t want us to find this fact out further down the line and be disappointed. We told him it was perfect for our event.”
