Italy’s shoe export revenues rose by 3.4% in 2017

Overall, Italian shoe and shoe component exports brought in export revenues of around €9.5 billion last year, an increase compared to 2016 of 3.4%.
Veneto was the region with the highest share, shipping shoes with a value of €2.6 billion, an increase of 4.3% year on year. Veneto’s share of the overall value of Italy’s footwear exports in 2017 was 27.4% and its most important export markets were France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK.
Second in the regional rankings was Tuscany, with an overall share of 21.4% and, with revenues of just over €2 billion, a year-on-year rise of 4.2%. Top importers of Tuscan shoes were Switzerland, the US, France and the UK.
Next came Lombardy with growth of 4.1% to more than €1.4 billion and a 15.3% share of the total. The US was the top destination for shoes from the region around Milan, followed by France, Switzerland and Hong Kong.
Le Marche’s export revenues were a little behind Lombardy’s at just over €1.4 billion. However, the value of exports from this traditional shoe-producing region fell by 1.5% compared to 2016 and its overall share of the total Italian footwear export cake was 15.1%.
Together these four regions brought in almost 80% of Italy’s total shoe export revenues in 2017.
