Founder of Kate Spade dies
06/06/2018
Born Katherine Noel Brosnahan, she co-founded Kate Spade Handbags in 1993 with husband Andy Spade. The brand opened its first store in New York in 1996, and now has more than 300 outlets around the world.
The couple sold their stake in the brand in 2006. In 2007, it was acquired by US leathergoods group Coach (now known as Tapestry) in a deal worth $2.4 billion.
Kate Spade New York said in a statement: "Although Kate has not been affiliated with the brand for more than a decade, she and her husband and creative partner, Andy, were the founders of our beloved brand. Kate will be dearly missed."
