Uruguayan packer firm starts production again, eight years on
Eight years after closing its doors, Uruguayan packer firm Frigorífico Florida is back in business, boosted by the acquisition of a controlling share in the company by Chinese investors at the end of 2017.

Uruguay’s president, Tabaré Vázquez, presided over a reopening ceremony at the plant on May 7.

Initially, up to 1,000 head of cattle will be slaughtered there every week, but production will gradually build up to levels of around 350 head per day. The packer firm has taken on an initial workforce of 100 people, but this will build up also to reach around 250.
