Chief executive, François-Henri Pinault, said the group had maintained “outstanding sales momentum” during the three-month period.
Kering pointed to the performance of Gucci and Saint Laurent as highlights. It described Gucci’s growth as “spectacular”; the brand’s growth compared to the first quarter of 2017 was 48.7% and revenues for the quarter were close to €1.9 billion. The corresponding figure for Saint Laurent was €408.2 million, growth of 19.6%.
Bottega Veneta’s figures were more disappointing, with revenues of €261.2 million, a decrease of 6.8% compared to the figure for the first quarter last year, although the leathergoods brand’s sales were up substantially in North America and Asia, especially Japan.
