Aerospace industry wants the seats that premium cars have

The chief executive of Adient Aerospace, Allan Wittman, has said aircraft manufacturers and airlines want to put into their aircraft the same comfort, quality, style and craftsmanship that consumers are used to in high-end automotive seating. He added that this is exactly what his new company intends to bring to the market.

Adient Aerospace was set up in January as a joint-venture between automotive seating supplier Adient and aircraft manufacturer Boeing. Allan Wittman worked for Boeing for more than 25 years before taking up his current role; in his last five years at the company, he led the seating supply chain for Boeing.

In the build-up to the Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg in mid-April that being able to deliver premium-quality seats would give the start-up “a huge opportunity” in an aircraft seating market estimated by the industry itself to be worth $4.5 billion per year.
