Hermès opens its third leathergoods factory in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté

“This opening demonstrates our dedication to artisanal production and the creation of jobs in France,” said chief executive, Axel Dumas, in a statement on April 6. “It is a testament to the talent of our craftspeople, and to the appeal of our high-quality know-how and the success of our leathergoods collections.”
Hermès has said that the new factory will ultimately employ 260 leathergoods artisans and that, thanks to its partnerships with two training schools for new generations of craftspeople in this part of France, it will have a total of 780 artisan leathergoods producers working in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté by 2023.
École Boudard in Béthencourt and Lycée des Huisselets in Montbéliard are the two local training schools that are helping Hermès and other luxury brands source new artisan talent in the region. Typically, people spend 15 months training before going to work in one of the factories.
