USHSLA makes television appeal for trade dialogue

During the discussion, Mr Sothmann said dialogue will be the basis of a solution to the escalating trade dispute between the two countries, which is already affecting the meat industry through new tariffs on pork exports to China.
“These are the two largest economies in the world,” he said, “so the trading relationship is going to be complex and there are going to be problems on both sides. But the way we work through these is with communication, negotiation and good, old-fashioned trade policy.”
He conceded that the dispute is of concern to USHSLA and warned that the consequences could be significant if negotiators are unable to reach a mutually acceptable conclusion to discussions.
NAMI’s Bill Westman added: “Trade [with China] is very important to us and we don’t want to jeopardise that. We are in a global supply chain and it’s a delicate system.”
