Bluesign adds leather chemicals to its online ‘bluefinder’ application

Certification body bluesign technologies has completed work it began with Stahl last year to add leather chemicals to the products listed on its ‘bluefinder’ online application. It said this will help provide “a robust solution for proactively managing chemicals for the leather and footwear industry”.

The bluefinder application now carries the details of more than 10,000 chemical products and the Switzerland-based organisation has described it as “the world’s first and most comprehensive positive list of chemical formulations”.

It says the application can help partners (including tanners, their suppliers and their customers) manage chemicals properly and replace hazardous chemicals with safer alternatives.

“With the extension of the bluesign bluefinder to leather chemistry the whole industry can benefit from bluesign’s huge knowledge of chemicals assessment and chemical change management in the supply chain,” said Michael Costello, sustainability director of Stahl.
