Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, who runs the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Centre for Automotive Research, has said that while Chinese automotive brands commanded an overall share of 43.9% of cars sold in the domestic market last year, their share of SUV sales is much higher.

Chinese car manufacturers produced 60.6% of the SUVs that Chinese consumers bought in 2017, the professor has said, adding that the SUV segment in the Chinese automotive market is still growing strongly.

The fourth Chinese Car Symposium, which will take place in Beijing on April 25 and 26, which Professor Dudenhöffer is organising, will include in-depth analysis of the success companies such as Geely, WM Motor, Byton and Iconiq Motors have had in addressing the needs of Chinese consumers.
