More Italian footwear brands make Moscow trip

Around 150 high-end Italian footwear brands travelled to Moscow for the March edition of the Obuv’ Mir Koži exhibition (March 20-23). This figure represents an increase of 15% in the number of exhibitors compared to the same edition of the event last year.

These companies took samples of the autumn-winter 2018-2019 collections to the Russian capital for the event and put them on show across an area measuring around 3,000 square-metres.

President of industry association Assocalzaturifici, Annarita Pilotti, said at the start of the Moscow event that Italian shoe manufacturers are continuing to experience an encouraging lift in orders from Russia and surrounding countries.

“It’s true that we are still some distance away from recovering the export levels we saw in 2013,” she said, “but in the first ten months of 2017 we exported 7.4 million pairs to this region with a value of €431 million. This means an increase in value of 17% compared to the same months in 2016.”

In Russia alone, imports of shoes made in Italy over that ten-month period reached 5.7 million pairs with a value of €336 million, 20% more than the figure for the same months in 2016.
