It goes on to say traditional market segments such as sheepskin, split or bovine leather have now become “universes on their own”.
As a result of this increased fragmentation, its says the assumptions that cheaper leather will lead to more consumption and that demand is there and will grow as more consumers become more wealthy are no longer valid. It warns that these assumptions have been the basis for a large number of industry studies and forecasts, suggesting that these, too, are no longer valid.
It insists that, for all these reasons, the leather pipeline has now become “a leather Babylon”.
