Government support for salmon leather opportunity in central Chile

19/03/2018
Government job creation organisation Sence has agreed to work with a fish and seafood company in Tomé in central Chile to teach local people how to make leather and leather accessories from salmon skins.

Sence will run workshops between March 20 and May 2, mixing classroom training with hands-on practice to teach local people how to turn waste from the local salmon fishing industry into a business opportunity.

Local authorities in Tomé have gone as far as to say they hope participants will go on to create artisan workshops and boost the tourist industry there.
