Tannery of the Year: winner named
The sixth Tannery of the Year Awards programme came to a successful conclusion on March 14 with a gala dinner in Hong Kong.

Thai tannery Interhides Public Company Limited (IHL) emerged as the winner of the global Tannery of the Year Award. Speaking immediately after the announcement, general manager, Chris Thumrongsakunvong, paid tribute to his parents, Ongart Thumrongsakunvong and Chutima Busayapoka, who have built the tannery up from being a small operator in the Bangpoomai tanning cluster, to being a company capable of processing 4,000 hides and 20,000 pigskins per day.

He said he was proud, also, that IHL is independent enough to set its own targets and decide for itself how to go about achieving them. But at the same time, he said IHL had also won the award thanks to its close co-operation with partners, including supplier of leather chemicals Stahl, and customer organisation Wolverine Worldwide.
