Fimec participants were in “good spirits”

The organisers of the Fimec exhibition in Novo Hamburgo, Brazil, have said the 2018 edition of the event, which took place from March 6-8, was one of the most successful in recent years and a number of senior industry figures have confirmed this impression.

Speaking soon after the end of the show, the executive president of footwear body Abicalçados, Heitor Klein, said: “There were very positive signs after some difficult years for the sector. We could see that visitors and the more than 500 exhibitors were in good spirits.”

One of the highlights was a joint initiative between Abicalçados and tanning industry association CICB. In an exercise they called FF Exchange, they attempted to bring tanners and footwear groups together at Fimec in the hope of sparking new supplier-customer relationships.

Tanners involved included Arte da Pele, Curtume Moderno, Curtume Rusan, Fuga Couros, Romi Couros and Santa Croce. Footwear companies that took part included Bibi, Cristófoli, Grupo Priority, Lotus, Vila Rosa and Zenglein.

In 2019, the dates for Fimec will be a little earlier in the calendar with the event taking place on February 26, 27 and 28.
