Cartigliano’s drying revolution has been 50 years in the making

As its name suggests, the new RF Drying system is based on radio frequency technology.
Cartigliano president, Dr Toni Polato, has calculated that the system will be able to help tanners gain between 5% and 7% in cutting yield because the radio frequency technology will remove moisture in a targeted way. It will remove the most moisture from the specific parts of the hide that contain and retain the most water.
He explained that the variance in fibre concentration in different parts of a hide means some areas have a higher level of moisture than others. “RF Drying evens this up,” he said. “It will work as an equaliser.”
Although Dr Polato has referred to the new system as a “a revolution in drying”, he revealed at Tanning Tech that he first worked on the idea of using radio frequency technology to dry hides in 1968, exactly 50 years ago. Some components of RF Drying use patents that Cartigliano secured then.
