Success for Lanxess at German environmental awards

ReeL stands for ‘Resource-efficient production of leather chemicals’ and centres on a plant for producing Lanxess’s X-Biomer retanning agent inside tanneries using trimmings and shavings and plant-based biomass.
Government minister Jochen Flasbarth and Holger Lösch from the Federation of German Industries (BDI), presented the award to the head of the Lanxess leather business unit, Luis López-Remón.
“The award clearly confirms that we are on the right path,” Mr López-Remón said. “Production residues from the leather manufacturing process can be recycled on-site in tanneries and we can significantly improve the sustainability profile of the leather manufacturing industry.”
