New Turner machine enhances Newsplit operation

Newsplit offers easy-to-manage digital control through the Windows operating system, allowing operators to choose the settings for splitting a batch of hides and fine-tune them before running automatically.
To add to this, the Annonay-based company has now brought to market an automated hide-feeding machine called Autofeed, which allows operators simply to place limed hides onto the conveyor belt for feeding into the Newsplit machine. Turner director, Romain Chambon, has explained that, as well as smoothing the hide out before presenting it to the splitting machine, the Autofeed component also has a function that opens up the grain to help increase yield. He says other important benefits from using Autofeed include improved throughput and workplace safety.
He went on to explain that Turner developed Autofeed in partnership with Lyon-based research body CTC. The two partners then worked with French leather manufacturer Les Tanneries du Puy to run trials of the technology. As part of that agreement, Les Tanneries du Puy had exclusive use of Autofeed for one year. “That year has now concluded,” he said, “and from the start of 2018 Autofeed is available to everyone.”
