Ethiopia: leather is a leading performer

13/02/2018
In the first half of the current financial year (July-December 2017), Ethiopia brought in export revenues of more than $1.3 billion, an increase of 9.2% compared to the same period in 2016. However, this figure leaves export revenues considerably short of a target set by the government.

Among the sectors of the economy that were close to meeting the government’s ambitious target were coffee, which brought in more than $380 million in export revenues over the six-month period, and leather.

Ethiopia’s ministry of trade has said the manufacturing sector as a whole brought in $223 million in export earnings and that leather and leather products, as well as textiles and garments, were the leading performers.
