Leathersellers’ Company hosts industry dinner
London’s ancient leather industry guild, the Worshipful Company of Leathersellers, hosted an industry dinner for tanners, footwear and accessory manufacturers and other representatives of the leather sector on February 1.

Around 70 people attended the event. Secretary general of European industry body COTANCE, Gustavo Gonzalez-Quijano, was the guest of honour.

On welcoming industry representatives to the venue, the Leathersellers Hall in the City of London, current master, Antony Andrew Barrow, mentioned a number of leather-sector initiatives that the company is involved in, including its support for the Institute for Creative Leather Technologies at the University of Northampton, and its backing of young designers at Cockpit Arts, a social enterprise and business incubator for craftspeople in London.

He also paid tribute to interiors designer Bill Amberg, a specialist in leather, for his work on the design of a new Leathersellers’ Hall, completed in 2016.

Chairman of the UK Leather Federation, James Lang, said the industry in the UK is in good shape. Collectively, the federation’s 29 member companies employ 1,500 people and have a turnover of £226 million, 86% of which comes from export revenues.
