Founder of furniture group Ikea dies

The founder of furniture group Ikea, Ingvar Kamprad, has died at the age of 91. He died peacefully at his home in Småland, in the south of the country, on January 27, the company said in a statement.

Ingvar Kamprad was born in 1926 in Småland. He founded Ikea at the age of just 17. The group now has more than 400 stores in almost 50 countries around the world.

Mr Kamprad stepped down from his operational role at Ikea in 1988, but continued to contribute to the business as a senior advisor, sharing his knowledge and energy with his co-workers, the statement continued.

“We are mourning the loss of our founder and dear friend Ingvar,” said chief executive, Jesper Brodin. “His legacy will be admired for many years to come and his vision, to create a better everyday life for the many people, will continue to guide and inspire us.”
