USHSLA releases January-November hide export figures
22/01/2018
Between January and November, packers and traders shipped more than 22.7 million salted hides overseas, bringing in revenues of more than $1.3 billion. These figures represent increases of 16% in volume and of 7% in value compared to the same months in 2016.
As was the case throughout 2017, the situation regarding exports of wet blue is different. From January until November, US tanners shipped just over 5.5 million wet blue hides to customers overseas, registering a value of almost $530 million. Wet blue exports, therefore, fell by 7% in volume and 4% value compared to the first 11 months of 2016.
Italy remains the most important market for US wet blue, importing more than 2.1 million hides over the 11-month period with a value of $204 million, year-on-year increases of 38% in volume and 37% in value.
